1980: Company Founded

Paul Hostetler and Rod Hershberger established VinylTech in Venice, FL, with three employees.

1987: Window Manufacturing

In 1987, the company was rebranded as PGT Custom Windows and Doors to reflect its expanded product line, meeting the growing demand for high-quality, durable windows.

1992: Hurricane Andrew

In 1992, following the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5 storm that inflicted over $25 billion in damage, PGT Custom Windows and Doors contributed to the development of some of the world’s strictest impact code standards.

1993: Establishing Impact Protocols

PGT Custom Windows and Doors collaborates with Miami-Dade County to create stringent testing protocols for impact-resistant products.

1996: WinGuard Launch

PGT Custom Windows and Doors became the first manufacturer to offer a complete line of impact-resistant windows and doors with the launch of WinGuard®.

2000: New Glass Plant

A dedicated glass production facility has been added to PGT’s North Venice location, allowing for greater quality control.

2007: Industry Recognition

In 2007, PGT Custom Windows & Doors earned the Corporate Award at the 21st Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference for their efforts in hurricane preparedness and mitigation. The company also received the Fenestration Manufacturers Association’s (FMA) Executive Director’s Award for advancing building codes, reinforcing its strong presence in the industry.

2008: WinGuard® Vinyl Launch

The introduction of WinGuard® Vinyl marks PGT’s first line of vinyl impact windows and doors.

2010: Crystal Achievement Award

PGT won Window  Door Magazine’s 2010 Crystal Achievement Award for Most Innovative Door, recognizing the superior performance and design of the WinGuard® Preferred Sliding Glass Door (SGD 770) and ClassicVue Max™ SGD 670.
