A Rich History of Excellence

For over a century, Marvin has proudly remained a family-owned company. It was officially founded in 1912 as Marvin Timber & Cedar Company, following George Marvin’s arrival in Warroad, a small town in northern Minnesota, in 1904. Before entering the window and door industry, George operated a grain elevator and lumberyard—an experience that shaped the company’s early direction.

Since its founding, Marvin has focused on helping people build more comfortable, healthier homes through innovation, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of integrity. For more than 110 years, the company has stayed deeply connected to its hometown, actively contributing to Warroad’s growth and well-being.

In 1939, George’s eldest son, Bill Marvin, joined the business as its eighth employee. After serving in World War II, Bill returned with a mission to support fellow veterans by creating jobs in manufacturing. Although George initially hesitated, Bill’s determination led him to invest in new equipment—at one point, cutting a hole in the building’s wall to install it. His bold approach sparked a period of remarkable growth.

Bill Marvin was instrumental in turning Marvin into a nationally recognized name in custom window manufacturing. Guided by his entrepreneurial drive, he grew the company while maintaining a strong focus on quality and thoughtful design. He passed these values on to his children—Frank, Jake, George, Susan, and Bob—who helped move the company forward.

Despite setbacks like major fires and economic downturns, Marvin stayed committed to its roots in Warroad. The company demonstrated resilience and strength, continuing to grow through every challenge. One notable event was the 1961 fire that destroyed the Warroad plant. Instead of slowing down, Marvin rebuilt and pressed forward, becoming even stronger.

As Marvin expanded, it established facilities across the U.S., including locations in North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, Iowa, and Colorado. Today, six members of the fourth generation help guide the company, including Paul Marvin (CEO and Chair of the Board), Dan Marvin (President of Business Development and Infinity Windows and Doors), Christine Marvin (Chief Marketing + Experience Officer), and Will Marvin (Director of Retail Operations). Members of the fifth generation—Jake Marvin, Bo Marvin, Dirk Marvin, and Graham Anderson—are also contributing to Marvin’s future.

The Marvin legacy continues to thrive through the dedication of each generation. Their commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and community remains at the heart of everything they do.

Windows

• Awning Windows

Awning windows are hinged at the top and open outward, providing ventilation while blocking water entry. They enhance doorways and window walls and can be placed high on walls to bring in natural light while preserving privacy. With a single sash that swings out from the bottom, these windows offer a great way to add seclusion or serve as stylish accents.

• Bay and Bow Windows

Bay windows consist of a central large window flanked by two narrower windows, projecting outward at an angle to create a three-dimensional view. Bow windows, on the other hand, extend beyond the home’s exterior in a curved configuration, typically made up of four or more identical windows. Both styles enhance interior space and provide expansive outdoor views.

• Casement Windows

Casement windows have a single sash hinged on either the left or right side of the frame. They open outward with a crank or handle, making them ideal for spaces where accessibility is a concern, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

• Corner Windows

Corner windows join two or more sashes at a corner, either symmetrically or asymmetrically. These require a structural frame that supports a large opening without a traditional corner post, allowing for unobstructed views.

• Double Hung Windows

Traditional style, double-hung windows feature two operable sashes that move vertically within a tracked frame. This classic design allows for adjustable ventilation, making them a timeless and functional choice for many homes.

• Picture and Direct Glaze Windows

Picture windows are fixed, non-operable units that offer panoramic views and enhance natural light. When paired with operable windows, they create beautiful focal points that invite the outdoors inside, much like framed artwork.

• Specialty Shape and Round Top Windows

In addition to the typical squares and rectangles, these windows are also available in a range of geometric designs, such as round tops, circles, and octagons. This variety presents distinctive design opportunities to improve architectural personality.

• Single Hung Windows

Single-hung windows resemble double-hung windows, but only the lower sash operates, sliding up and down. They are a popular option for many homeowners since they offer a traditional appearance while being economical and energy-efficient.

Also known as glider windows, sliding windows have one or more operable sashes that move horizontally. Some models offer easy-cleaning features, such as tilting or removable sashes, enabling both convenience and functionality.

• Storefront Windows

Coastline Storefront windows create a striking focal point with expansive glass panels that offer stunning views. Although commonly used in commercial spaces, they are also perfect for homes in select southeastern coastal areas, where unobstructed views are preferred.

• Bi-Fold Doors

For a striking visual impact, glass bi-fold doors offer expansive floor-to-ceiling panels, creating an entryway up to 55 feet wide. These doors feature hinged panels that neatly stack against the edge of an opening, maximizing space compared to large-paneled sliding doors.
